Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about hot air balloon flights in Montenegro.

What time are hot air balloon flights held in Montenegro?

Flights take place only at sunrise—this is when the air is most calm, there are no thermal currents, and visibility is perfect. The exact start time depends on the season: in summer, the sun rises early; in winter, later.

How long does the flight last?

The flight itself lasts about an hour—usually between 40 and 70 minutes, depending on wind speed. The whole adventure—including meeting the team, assembling and inflating the balloon, briefing, flight, landing, packing up, and returning to the vehicle—takes about 3–4 hours. Plan to spend the whole morning on this experience.

At what altitude does the flight take place?

We fly at altitudes up to 450 meters above the ground. The exact altitude is chosen by the pilot depending on the weather: we can go higher for panoramic views of the mountains and sea, or descend close to treetops to see the river and fields. Flights are conducted in class G airspace according to Montenegro's civil aviation regulations.

Where do the flights take place?

We fly in the most scenic parts of Montenegro — from flat valleys to the highlands of Durmitor. Here is our current list of locations:

  • Danilovgrad
  • Nikšić
  • Berane
  • Plav
  • Žabljak
How much does a hot air balloon flight cost?

The price depends on the program and number of people:

  • Group flight — from €230 per person (shared basket, up to 8 passengers);
  • Private flight for two — €800 for the entire basket;
  • Family flight for three — €850 for the entire basket;
  • Family flight for four — €900 for the entire basket.

The final amount may be affected by ordering a transfer to the launch site. Current prices are always listed in the booking form.

From what age can children fly?

Children are allowed to fly from the age of 6, and only when accompanied by parents or legal guardians. The recommended minimum height is about 120 cm: the basket sides are high, so small children may not be able to see the ground. Also note that the burner is loud and may scare young kids — if you’re unsure, come watch a takeoff with your child first.

How safe are hot air balloon flights?

According to global statistics, hot air balloons are one of the safest types of air transport. This is ensured by specific measures: experienced pilots with regularly renewed qualifications, annual technical inspections of the balloon, passenger insurance, and the main rule of ballooning—flights only take place in completely safe weather. If conditions are not suitable, we reschedule the flight with no risk to passengers.

Can I fly if I'm afraid of heights?

Usually, yes. Unlike being on a ladder or balcony, you don’t feel like you’re "hanging over a void" in the basket: the balloon is firmly connected to the air mass and moves smoothly with it, without swaying or sudden drops. Most people with a fear of heights feel comfortable during the flight and enjoy the views. If you’re worried, let the pilot know—they’ll take it into account when gaining altitude.

Will I get motion sickness during the flight?

No. The balloon moves with the wind, so you don’t feel any wind inside the basket. There is no shaking or turbulence like on airplanes. Motion sickness in a hot air balloon is extremely rare, so you don’t need any motion sickness pills.

What should I wear for the flight?

Dress as you would for a nature walk in this season — your clothes should be comfortable, preferably layered. Closed shoes without heels are a must; there’s often dew on the field in the morning, so high-top sneakers or waterproof shoes are ideal. Bring a hat: the burner above gives off noticeable heat. Leave long scarves and loose accessories at home. In winter, wear a warm jacket, hat, and gloves.

What should I bring for the flight?

All you need is your phone or camera and a good mood. You can bring a small bag or a thermos with hot tea. Large backpacks and bags are best left in the support vehicle—there should be enough space in the basket for everyone, and the balloon's weight sensitivity limits the load. Keep all valuables with you: passengers are responsible for their personal belongings.

Can I bring my phone or camera?

Of course, and you definitely should! The bird’s-eye view is perfect for photos. Feel free to bring your phone, action camera, or DSLR; selfie sticks are also allowed. Just make sure your equipment is secure or in a case—during landing, it’s best to put everything away and keep it inside the basket. Flying a drone from the balloon is not allowed.

Is it cold in the basket during the flight?

No, the temperature in the basket is almost the same as on the ground, plus some warmth from the burners. Also, the balloon moves with the wind, so you don't feel any draft. Only above one kilometer does it get noticeably colder (about 6.5°C per kilometer)—but we don't fly that high, and a warm sweater is enough.

Why are flights only held early in the morning?

In the morning, the atmosphere is most stable: the ground hasn't warmed up yet, vertical thermal currents haven't formed, and the wind is minimal. During the day, the sun heats the surface and creates rising and descending air currents, making the flight unsafe. That's why most hot air balloon flights around the world start shortly after sunrise—it's not just tradition, but a safety requirement.

Where will we fly? Can you steer the balloon?

A hot air balloon flies in the direction of the wind—it has no rudder or engine. However, the pilot can still control the trajectory by changing altitude, since winds blow in different directions at different heights. Planning the route is like a chess game: the starting point is known in advance, but the landing spot is chosen during the flight. Each flight is accompanied by a ground crew that follows the balloon and meets it at landing.

Where will we land and how does the landing work?

The exact landing spot is determined by the wind and chosen by the pilot closer to the end of the flight—a suitable field of sufficient size is needed. The landing itself is usually gentle: the basket touches the ground and comes to a smooth stop. In stronger winds, there may be a brief contact with a slight tilt—at this moment, you should hold onto the handles and follow the pilot’s instructions, which you’ll receive before the flight. After landing, the crew packs up the balloon, and all guests are driven back to the meeting point.

What happens if the weather gets bad and the flight is cancelled?

No worries — this is standard practice in ballooning.

The decision to reschedule is made based on the forecast the day before, or sometimes on the morning of the flight if actual conditions are worse than expected. Weather cancellations are free of charge: your flight will be rescheduled to the next convenient day. We recommend planning your flight for the first days of your vacation to allow time for rescheduling if needed.

How often do you get to fly? Are there many flyable days?

To be honest: Montenegro is quite windy, and only about one fifth of the days each year are suitable for flights. Sometimes you may have to wait a few days for the right conditions—but that’s what makes every flight so special. We monitor the weather forecast closely and let you know the day before, so you don’t waste your time.

Can pregnant women fly?

No, we kindly ask pregnant women not to fly. Although the flight itself is smooth, landing in windy conditions can involve bumps or the basket tipping over, and risking the health of mother and baby is unacceptable. Please come back after your child is born—many sunrises await you!

Is there a weight limit for passengers?

There is no strict weight limit, but each program has a limited lifting capacity, so we ask you to provide passenger weights when booking.

This helps the pilot calculate the balloon's load.

Passengers over ~110 kg may need to pay for an extra spot or switch to a program with higher capacity—please check the details when booking (enter the correct weight in the booking form).

Are there any health restrictions? Who should not fly?

Each passenger must be able to stand unaided in the basket for the entire flight (about an hour), and get in and out without assistance. Not allowed to fly: children under 6, pregnant women, and anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Caution is advised for those who have recently had surgery, back injuries, severe cardiovascular diseases, or epilepsy: please consult your doctor and inform the pilot when booking. If you have pollen allergies, we recommend taking an antihistamine: we launch from a field with blooming grasses.

How many people fit in the basket?

Our group flights accommodate up to 8 passengers at once—spacious, with everyone getting a spot by the edge for great views. Private and family flights are for 2–4 people: just you, your loved ones, and the pilot.

Can I book a private flight?

Yes! We organize private flights for two people—perfect for a romantic date, marriage proposal, or anniversary—as well as family programs for three or four. Only you and the pilot will be in the basket. These flights must be booked in advance, especially during high season. You can easily choose your preferred option in the booking form.

Do you provide transfers to the launch site?

Yes, we can arrange a transfer upon request—the cost depends on the distance to the meeting point and is calculated automatically in the booking form when you specify your departure location. If you are traveling by your own car, simply come to the meeting point: coordinates will be sent to you the day before your flight.

How do I book a flight and is a prepayment required?

Everything is arranged through the booking form on the website: choose your program, dates, and number of people, leave your contact details — we will confirm your booking and send you the details. The prepayment depends on the selected program and is agreed upon during confirmation; if the flight is canceled due to weather, your money will be refunded or transferred to a new date without any loss.

How many days in advance should I book a flight?

The earlier you book, the better your chances of flying in good weather: we recommend booking a few weeks in advance, and for July–August or holidays — a month or more ahead. Also, keep 2–3 extra days in mind in case your flight is rescheduled due to weather. Last-minute requests are welcome too — sometimes spots open up for the very next day!

Is it allowed to smoke or consume alcohol before the flight?

No. Alcohol and any psychoactive substances are prohibited before and during the flight — passengers in an unfit state will not be allowed to fly and will not receive a refund. Smoking is strictly forbidden near the balloon at all times: we work with propane and flammable materials. We’ll celebrate with champagne after landing!

Do you fly all year round? When is the best season?

We fly all year round—each season has its own colors: spring greenery in the valleys, summer sunrises over Zeta, golden autumn, and the winter panorama of snow-covered Durmitor. In winter, the air is cleaner and more stable, and visibility can reach dozens of kilometers. The best time is when you have 2–3 free mornings: the weather matters more than the calendar.
